Video of the Self-regulation for Accomplishment workshop
On April 26, 2014, gifted programs of Virginia Beach City Public Schools sponsored a parent workshop titled Help your child get it together: Self-regulation for accomplishment. The parents who attended provided us with strong, positive feedback about their reaction to the presentation. The video has been made available on this website because many people who wanted to attend were unable to do so. We hope you find it to be be useful and look forward to your comments.
Workshop Video Part I
The first half of the video begins with an introduction of the presenters. Shekita Howard then provides a parent's perspective on making positive changes by discussing habits. Then, Caitlin Kaminski, a gifted resource teacher. explains how success with self-regulation is bound to both motivation and to mindset. In the last segment of the first half of the presentation, Greg Callan, a psychologist, discusses the tools available on the website and how to use them.

Workshop Video Part II
The second half of the video begins with a discussion by Dr. Bill Goff, a specialist for gifted programs, about the importance of involving our children in the planning and problem-solving processes needed for self-regulation. Jill Reid, a gifted resource teacher, then provides a summary and highlights the most important take-aways from the workshop. In the last segment of the video the presenters respond to questions from parents in the audience.
